It's glad tidings for Harley-Davidson owners who like to munch many a miles on their V-twins as the company launched its 24x7 road assistance programme across all nine dealership locations in the country

Harley-Davidson Fatboy and Softail Heritage in action

No matter how good a machine has been engineered, it is bound to break down one day or the other. Everyone has experienced a breakdown while travelling on their two-wheelers and has somehow managed to get it fixed by a roadside mechanic. But the problem amplifies when you are cruising aboard an American V-twin in the far countryside and it breaks down. This is one of the main reasons why most of the big bike owners in our country avoid touring on their mean machines. But if you are a Harley-Davidson owner you need not worry about these things as the American two-wheeler manufacturer has launched its 24x7 roadside assistance programme. The new initiative provides on-road assistance support to registered Harley-Davidson owners in all nine dealership locations across the country. The programme has been initiated in association with India Assistance, a 100 per cent subsidiary of leading international assistance company Mapfre Assistance. Speaking on the roadside assistance programme, Anoop Prakash, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India, said,  “As a brand built around the customer, Harley-Davidson is committed to providing our riders with a superior ownership experiences. With the team at India Assistance, we are now offering a menu of important services, 24x7 support, and trucks that can safely and efficiently tow our entire model line-up.  The roadside assistance program provides a sense of safety and comfort to our customers who can now cruise Indian roads with greater peace of mind. Our investment is in line with our long–term commitment to lead the development of leisure motorcycling in India.”

The 24x7 Services include fuel delivery, transportation in case of breakdown/accident/flat tyre support, provision of local taxi, dedicated helpline and relay of urgent messages. The geographic scope of the Roadside Assistance Services shall be within 150 km radius from the nearest Harley-Davidson dealership and if the rider is beyond the 150km range, assistance will be available on a paid basis at a rate of Rs 40/km as towing charges and Rs 25/km as petrol delivery charges for km covered above 150 km. One of the cool features of the new scheme is that the bike is entitled to the same benefits even after a change of ownership.

Supercars and hypercars commanding a price tag in crores isn't unheard of but what about their two-wheeler counterparts? Are they equally pricey? ZigWheels takes a look at the 10 most expensive (not to mention insane) production motorcycles in the world!

For many, a motorcycle is just a utilitarian mode of transport that gets them from point A to B while for some others it's a means of self expression and a passion. Imagine if you have all the money in the world and need a bike that can share garage space with your swanky Rolls-Royce or sporty Ferrari with equal panache? For such niche customers there exists a very rare breed of bikes which apart from their incredible craftsmanship and performance sport a price tag that can put many sports and luxury cars to shame. Here's a look at the current top 10 most expensive production motorcycles:

Vyrus 987 C3 4V V (Volumex)

10, Vyrus 987 C3 4V V (Volumex)
Price : $1,03,769 (Rs 57 lakh)

If Bruce Wayne had to buy a motorcycle then the Vyrus 987 C3 4V V would be definitely his weapon of choice. It not only looks like a motorcycle from another planet but rides also like one, instead of traditional steering arrangement where forks are used up-front, the Vyrus employs hub-centre steering and front swingarm which is parallel to the tarmac. The C3 4V V is the brainchild of Ascanio Rodorigo who used to work for Bimota in the early '80s and the bike is powered by a Ducati-sourced 1198cc V-twin engine which has been further supercharged to pump out 214PS of power while weighing just 154kg.

MV Agusta F4CC

9, MV Agusta F4CC
Price : $1,20,000 (Rs 66 lakh)

When the CEO of Italian exotic motorcycle brand MV Agusta gives his name to a bike then it is clear that the end product has to be spectacular. The MV Agusta F4CC where CC stands for Claudio Castiglioni is according to the company’s boss the most extreme expression of the brand MV Agusta. Powering the F4CC is a 1,078cc mill competent enough to pump 203PS of power and enables the bike to attain a top speed of 315 kph. Though visually the bike looks similar to the standard F4, according to company officials around 90 per cent of the entire superbike has been crafted using custom-built parts. To keep the weight of the bike as low as possible titanium has been used guards in the intake and the air outlets along with the classic four-pipe exhaust system. Carbon fibre has been employed in crafting the bikes body panels and fenders whereas the single-sided swingarm to the rear wheel is made entirely of magnesium.  Only 100 examples of the F4CC would be built and each would set the owner back by $1,20,000 or Rs 66 lakh. Along with every bike the owner would be gifted a Girard-Perregaux Laureato EVO3 F4CC wristwatch worth $ 22,856 or Rs12.5lakh which would be also limited to 100 units.

The Concept Ninety is BMW's way of rejoicing 90 years of its existence and the bike is inspired by the BMW R 90 S which also completed its 40th anniversary this year
BMW Concept Ninety stationary shot

How do you commemorate two major landmarks of your history? Well, if you are BMW Motorrad, you'd do it in style. To celebrate 90 years in the two-wheeler industry and 40 years of its first faired motorcycle, the BMW R 90 S, it unveiled a unique one-off bike, the BMW Concept Ninety. And BMW couldn’t have asked for a better venue to showcase its special motorcycle -- the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013 in Italy.

The BMW R 90 S was unveiled back in 1973 and was the first bike from the German bike manufacturer to boast a fairing which helped it achieve a top whack of over 200km/h making it one of the fastest production bikes of its time. The Concept Ninety draws a major influence from the R 90 S but has been given a café racer twist and draped in the same Daytona Orange paintwork which gave the R 90 S a distinctive identity. The bike was designed in close collaboration with world-renowned custom bike manufacturer Roland Sands Design from California, USA, which has been instrumental in providing many of the high-quality parts featured on the bike. The body panels have been handcrafted from aluminium while the traditional circular headlamps with halogen light have given way for LED lights to give the machine a modern touch.

Special attention was given to the front cover of the boxer engine and the valve covers which were meticulously milled and the same treatment was given to the exhaust also. The parts were milled using a contrast cut technique which has been helpful in giving the parts an alluring contrast with respect to the black mechanical components. Sadly though BMW has no plans to produce this piece of art on two-wheels, so all you classic sportsbike fans have to be content just watching the Concept Ninety on your screens or later at the BMW museum.

Powered by the magnificent 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine that develops more power, the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage S is a compact and seriously powerful sportscar that captures the essence of 'extreme' in a beautiful manner

Aston Martin V12 Vantage S

Yes, the world is largely about economical four/five door vehicles for they suit real world requirements. But deep down, people crave something extreme, something savage, a car that is out of this world. And there are very few cars out there that bring out those feelings in you better than the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage S.
Armed with a 6.0-litre, naturally aspirated, 12-cylinder engine mounted under its long sleek bonnet with those carbon fibre gills, the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S is a sensation. And its engine generates an equally sensational 573PS of power and 620Nm of torque giving the supercar a top speed of 328 km/h. The engine is mated to a seven-speed, rear mid-mounted Sportshift III automated manual transmission with electronic shift-by-wire control system.
Featuring ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’ modes, the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage S has a new three-stage adaptive damping system that provides a broad range of performance that can be adjusted to better suit the driver’s requirements and the level of steering assistance.
The new V12 Vantage S also gets a new exhaust system that has been derived from that of the One-77 hypercar, and is lighter, smaller and even more sonorous than that of the outgoing Vantage V12.

Editor's View : Maruti Suzuki SX4

Basically a three box version of its European hatch cousin, the SX4 is a great value for money proposition for the Indian market. The SX4's large dimensions offer decent interior space, however the overall quality of materials used on the interiors is not up to the mark. Well suited for India, the SX4 has fantastic ground clearance, good drive dynamics and is offered with petrol and diesel engine options
